Service Description

Navigation is more than knowing which way to go—it’s a core survival skill, and one every outdoor traveler should carry, with or without a signal. You’ll move beyond simply reading a map and using a compass to learning how to orient yourself on the landscape, plot and follow a course through the woods, and navigate an orienteering-style course with confidence. We’ll cover terrain recognition, understanding topographic maps, and creating a simple trip itinerary so you can plan and travel intentionally. We’ll also discuss the role of satellite devices like inReach and digital mapping tools—what they’re great for, and where they fall short. Smartphones and apps can support your journey, but they should never be your only plan. This workshop equips you with the skills to know where you are, where you’re going, and how to get there—no signal required.
